Thank you for supporting the next generation of young artists!

How many lives has Marty touched in his
54 year career with Disney?
How many careers has he launched?

To celebrate the legacy of Marty Sklar, The Walt Disney Company has turned to Ryman Arts. Walt Disney Parks and Resorts and The Walt Disney Studios will each host a Ryman Sklar Intern every year, and will help launch the Marty Sklar Legacy Fund to support young artists from the beginning of their artistic journey in Ryman Arts through their emergence as creative professionals entering the workplace.

Disney has pledged $250,000 for the Marty Sklar Legacy Fund, provided it is matched by $100,000 in contributions from others. $350,000 will endow an entire class of Disney Sklar Art Student Scholars at Ryman Arts every year.

Marty Sklar and his wife Leah co-founded Ryman Arts in 1990, along with Sharon Disney Lund, Anne and Buzz Price and Herb’s sister, Lucille Ryman Carroll. From a single class for 12 students, now over 150 students gather each week for top notch instruction in the foundation skills of drawing and painting. The endowed Fund will ensure that thousands more deserving young people will have the same opportunity for years to come. This is a particularly appropriate way to honor Marty’s legacy as he personally has been committed to the education of young people, identifying talent at an early age, and supporting artists at every stage of their careers.

Marty Sklar retired from Disney on the 54th anniversary of Disneyland, July 17, 2009. A window on City Hall, Main Street has just been dedicated in Marty’s honor, with the inscription:

“Inspiring the Dreamers and Doers of Tomorrow”

Those who have worked with Marty know firsthand his inspiring gift for spotting and shaping the talents of so many creative people at Walt Disney Imagineering and beyond. For twenty years, Marty has applied that same gift to guide the creation and growth of Ryman Arts, along with his wife Leah. Together with an enthusiastic Board of Directors and steadfast supporters, they have created a non-profit arts organization that is shaping the next generation of “dreamers and doers.”

Marty has mentored so many talented professionals throughout his career, just as Herb Ryman did before him. Let's show our appreciation for Marty’s leadership and inspiration.
